Hair Mineral Analysis (HMA) is a screening test to measure the levels of up to 60 essential minerals and toxic metals. With correct testing and interpretation, one can construct a comprehensive metabolic profile of the human body. As hair grows it forms a permanent record of the body’s nutritional deficiencies or excesses.

This test is also suitable for children. Minerals screened include calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium and phosphorus and trace minerals – copper, manganese, chromium, selenium, iron, molybdenum, lithium, cobalt, and zinc. Toxic metals screened include lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, nickel, and aluminum.

FAQ'S

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What about contamination such as hair dyes and soaps, won't these affect my results?

Some hair treatments that contain lead acetate, shampoos that contain selenium or zinc, and bleaching processes may contaminate scalp hair. However, only in some cases the individual element maybe affected, as the Hair Mineral Analysis testing machine is calibrated to take into account any noted hair treatment and dyes in most cases.

  • Doesn't a blood or urine test tell me just as much as a hair analysis test?

Blood tests provides information about your mineral levels at the time of the test only. For example, if you've just consumed banana, your test can indicate a high potassium level, even though you may actually need potassium supplementation. Hair analysis results on the other hand, provides an indication of your overall potassium levels over a period of time, not just what you ate that day or even that week. Testing for minerals in the urine measures the minerals that are being excreted from your body - not necessarily what has been absorbed as fuel for your body. Hair analysis provides a history of your mineral retention where as blood and urine test are snapshots that can change depending on your food lifestyle/food consumption on any given day.
